- On Sept. 3, 2002, amateur astronomer Bill Yeung discovered an object (J002E3) he thought was a new asteroid orbiting Earth. But spectroscopic analysis showed it was covered in white, titanium-oxide (TiO2) paint. The reason? J002E3 was a long-lost spent third stage from an Apollo-era Saturn V rocket. https://astronomy.com/news/2020/05/how-a-long-gone-apollo-rocket-returned-to-earth 369 comments space
- A new comprehensive study of climate change has painted over 5 million pictures of humanity's potential future, and few foretell an Earth that has not severely warmed. But with immediate action and some luck, there are pathways to a tolerable climate future https://eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-03/tu-fpt030619.php 11 comments science
- Astronomers have found the youngest known pulsar in the Milky Way. - Let's say I have a globe, and I cover the land masses with wet paint. I roll the globe on a flat piece of paper to transfer the geoid. When rolling, I am careful not to twist/spin the earth over a point. Does anyone know if this will create a proper map? Is there a name for this? https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100823224109AAU5GOl 22 comments askscience
